Actualmente me encuentro inmersa en la educación para entrenador Internacional impartido por Turid Rugaas. El fin de semana del 14 al 16 de septiembre asistí al segundo modulo de la formación. Cubrimos temas tan importantes como el setres y los efectos de este en el perro, los cachorros y la historia del entrenamiento canino. Es increíble que hayamos avanzado tan poco en este tema del entrenamiento y todavía se sigan usando técnicas basadas en las necesidades militares de hace tantos años. Pero me llevo conmigo la parte buena de los métodos que se usan ahora, como el enriquecimiento ambiental y los senderos sensoriales que utilizan el olfato de nuestros canes. Ya sabemos todos lo beneficioso que es potenciar el olfato como terapia des-estresante. Pero también, favorece que los perros sean curiosos, que se atrevan a investigar y crezcan y se desarrollen seguros de sí mismos siendo capaces de resolver problemas por si mismos. Esto es lo que deberíamos de buscar y favorecer en nuestros perros.
I am currently fully focused in the education for international dog trainer taught by Turid Rugaas. The weekend of the 14th to the 16th of September I attended the second module of this course. We went over matters as important as stress and its effect on the dog, puppies and the history of dog training. It is incredible that we have developed so little in this area and we are still using methods developed on the military needs of so long ago. But I take with me the positive part of methods used nowadays, like enriched environments and sensory trails that use the dog’s nose. We all know how beneficial it is to encourage the use of the nose as a de-stressing therapy. But it also favors the curiosity of the dog, it makes them want to investigate and promotes dogs that are confident and self-assured, also being capable of solving problems by themselves. This is what we should look for and stimulate in our dogs.
